We Live Local
Our Rural Communities Are Home
Sustainability needs people devoted to making the world better. We take such pride and joy in watching our employees, their families and communities benefit from our farms. When we need something, from animal feed to fiber optics, our first choice is local. The improvements in school enrollments, quality of housing, availability of nearby goods and services and contribution to the local tax base is rewarding.
From Cow to Cup
Making a Difference Matters
McCarty Family Farms has more than 165 employees in four rural communities: Rexford, Bird City and Scott City, Kansas and Beaver City, Nebraska. Our families, co-workers and their families make these communities our home. Our children attend community schools. We depend upon the grocery stores, gas stations and small businesses.
Our employees are our extended family. We are proud of the growth opportunities we provide. We strive to hire people for the long-term, focusing on families and providing a dynamic benefits package. The McCarty family personally sees that its farms are safe and respectful work environments, with proper training, advancement opportunities, and a culture of transparency for developing honest and valued team members.
Affordable local housing was a real issue for our employees, so we needed to help. We have refurbished about 80 houses in our communities that are now homes for our employees. McCarty Family Farms provided the land to build Pine Village Apartments in Rexford, which provides affordable housing to farm labor residents. We were honored with the Kansas Ad Astra Partnership Award from the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation for doing what we can to help.
Yogurt for Youth
Our Yogurt for Youth program donates about 250,000 servings of yogurt to local schools each year. This wouldn't be possible without our partners at Dannon, Southwest Dairy Farmers, Ruan Trucking and the local schools.
Our Partners Make a Difference
More than 80% of the animal feed we need is grown on our farms or purchased from local farmers. This includes wheat, hay, alfalfa, sorghum, corn and others.
Heavy equipment on our farms includes the most efficient tractors and loaders available. Satellites monitor them to track fuel efficiency and when equipment needs servicing.
Because of a revolutionary partnership with Dannon, we are able to accelerate our sustainability efforts. Innovation creates opportunity from cow to cup!
